Weekly Wool Prices

Week Ending 30 September (Week 13)

30 September 2016

The stranglehold the foreign exchange rate has had on the wool market in recent weeks appeared to loosen its grip this week as micron appeared to have a bigger effect on buyers intentions. For the week’s trading the benchmark eastern market indicator (EMI) lifted just three cents to 1290 c/kg and eight cents in US terms to 991 usc/kg but this modest gain for the week hides a tale of two Merino micron bands. Merino fleece wool of around 19 micron proved to be the watershed with all indicators 19.5 micron and finer lifting by 15 to 35 cents whilst Merino wools stronger than this in general lost 15 to 20 cents.
